Commerzbank is nominated for the German Sustainability Award 2019 in the category "large companies", an award for the most sustainable companies in Germany. Among other things, the jury justified the nomination by the fact that Commerzbank is aiming for a pioneering role in the consideration of sustainable criteria in corporate management. Examples include the Bank's coal position and the Sustainable Finance Committee, which is designed to help implement the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

"The nominees of the competition show how companies not only solve the problems of the future but turn sustainability into competitive advantages, strong communication and satisfied employees. The prize should confirm, inspire and make it recognizable as a seal of approval," says Stefan Schulze-Hausmann, initiator of the award.

In addition to Commerzbank, 11 other major companies have been nominated. The announcement of the winners will take place on December 7, 2018 as part of the Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitstag (German Sustainability Day).

About the award

The German Sustainability Award is the national award for excellence in sustainability in business, municipalities and research. With six competitions (among others for companies), over 800 applicants and 2,000 guests to the events, the prize is the largest of its kind in Europe. The award is presented by the Foundation Deutscher Nachhaltigkeitspreis in cooperation with the Federal Government, municipal umbrella organizations, business associations, civil society organizations and research institutions. The finalists and winners will be decided by an independent panel of experts chaired by Prof. Dr. med. Günther Bachmann, Secretary General of the Council for Sustainable Development. This newly appointed body brings perspectives from business, research, civil society and politics into the decision-making process.
